周囲が愕然とするほど、僕は楽天家である。

自己啓発書風の言葉を使うなら、ポジティブシンキングである。

なぜこういう思考ができるようになったのか？と問われれば、僕は即答できる。

父親に言われた一言がきっかけだった。


「人は知らず知らずのうちに最良の人生を選択している」


当時の自分はその意味がよく理解できなかったが、言葉だけは心の片隅にひっかかった。

そしてワインが熟成されるように、年齢を重ねながらゆっくりとその意味を自分の中で咀嚼（そしゃく）してきた。


人生は分岐点の連続である。

ありえたかもしれない人生が枝分かれしている。

きっと自分の人生は、その一番よい枝を選びながら進んでいるのだ。


万が一、失敗、敗北のほうを選んでしまったとしても、それは目先の失敗や敗北に過ぎない。

よりたくさんの光が届くほうに向って、人生の枝は伸びているに違いない。

全てを教える一言もいいが、相手に成熟させる一言にはさらなる価値が付く。

小山氏は、購入してまだ一週間もたっていない新車で事故を起こしてしまったとき、

車が廃車になりながらも、怪我一つなかったことに対して、

「ここで正面衝突していなかったら、次の交差点で歩行者をはねていたかもしれない。なんて自分は幸運なんだろう！」

と思ったそうだ。


「人は知らず知らずのうちに最良の人生を選択している」、という言葉は、年齢を重ねてくるとわかる。

たとえ選択したことが、その時は、間違った選択だった、失敗したと思っても、それは長い目でみたら、結局は最良の選択だったことに気づく。

なぜなら、完膚（かんぷ）なきまでにやっつけられたことや、大失敗があったからこそ、今の自分がある、と時が過ぎれば分かってくるからだ。


しかしそうは言っても、選択したことを一生悔（く）やみ、愚痴をいい続けて暮らす人もいる。

自分が選択したにも関わらず、まわりのせいにする人だ。

人に甘え、依存し、まわりのせいにして生きている人でも、結局は自分の人生は自分が決め、自分で選択している。


たとえ、どのような選択をしたとしても、それが最良の選択だった、と思う人だけが、ポジティブで、楽天的に生きられる。

どんなひどいことがあろうと、「これが最良の道」、と思える人生をおくりたい。
